The Invertebrate Kingdom Like with the Vertebrates we can group Invertebrates, animals without backbones, into different groups depending on their key characteristics. In the following we will look at each group, the characteristics of that group and some of its members.
Cnidaria Cnidrians have the following characteristics: 1. Jelly-like Bodies 2. Tentacles 3. Hollow Bodied
Flatworms Flatworms have no body segments and are flattened in shape.
True Worms True worms have cylindrical (round) bodies that are segmented (divided into parts).
Molluscs To be a mollusc you need to have a soft body, a muscular foot and many will also have a shell.
The final group is the Arthropods. This group we divided into four families: Insects Arachnids Crustacea Myriapods
Insects Insects have 6 legs and three body parts.
Arachnids Arachnids have 8 legs and 2 body parts.
Crustacea Most crustacea have gills and antennae.
Myriapods Myriapods have many segments to their body and have at least one pair of legs to each segment.
